Pulmonary hypertension is associated with significant morbidity and mortality in the perioperative period due to the risk of acute right ventricular dysfunction. Accurate haemodynamic assessment in these patients is a difficult but necessary step in management. I aim to develop and evaluate a physiological model of the right heart and pulmonary circulation for the real-time evaluation of pulmonary haemodynamics using retrospective data from patients undergoing right heart catheterisation. I will then validate my model in a pre-clinical ovine laboratory under a range of physiological and pathological states. Thereafter, I will apply the model prospectively to perioperative patients.
