Domestic violence affects up to one in four women, with significant long-term health and financial impacts to women and children. Despite its prevalence, it remains under-addressed in primary care due to various system, patient and clinician barriers.
Our research aims to evaluate a novel health system intervention in general practice to improve the detection and response to domestic violence. This research could significantly enhance the primary care response to domestic violence, leading to improved detection, clinician experience and point-of-care documentation and risk assessment of affected women.
The mentorship offered through MacHSR is crucial to supporting my professional development and future research. It provides a unique opportunity to work closely with and learn from experienced leaders. Deepening my health services research knowledge will help me formulate the right questions and in turn, implement successful interventions in my projects. My long-term goals involve continued research in systems interventions. I aim to explore the Australian primary care system and identify areas where digital health innovations could make a significant impact to health services reform.
