Pelvic floor reconstructive surgeries frequently involve vaginal packing as part of routine postoperative care. Currently, our organisation keeps packing in place for up to 48 hours, despite evidence shorter durations of 24 hours or less may be equally effective and may be associated with better outcomes. This extended duration may increase discomfort, infection risk, and resource use. My project aims to review the existing protocol and implement a revised, evidence-based guideline to reduce vaginal packing duration – enhancing patient safety, comfort, recovery and resource optimisation.
MacHSR will equip me with advanced skills in health services research, implementation science and systems thinking for leading sustainable change. The mentorship, networking and structured learning will enhance my ability to translate research into practice and influence policies and protocols. My health service will benefit from strengthened leadership, improved evidence-based care delivery and a culture of continuous improvement. This fellowship will also support broader dissemination of successful practices across the organisation and beyond.
