What if hospital operations could shift from reactive firefighting to a proactive, dynamic system that reconfigures daily to meet evolving demands?

To realise this vision, we developed a real-time, national AI model that predicts ICU strain.  For the next step, I aim to translate the validated model into the existing national Critical Health Resources Information System to support health services operations.

The journey from AI model to implemented health service capability requires careful implementation and evaluation. This fellowship will provide me with the skills to apply AI implementation frameworks in healthcare, including evaluating the model’s real-time performance and clinician usability before live deployment.

In an increasingly resource-constrained healthcare landscape, optimising capacity is vital. By embedding machine learning into operational workflows, we can build a more resilient, sustainable health service that elevates care for both patients and providers. The skills gained from this project will help me advance my role in digital innovation and continue Northern Health’s digital transformation journey through the adoption of intelligent systems that improve healthcare delivery.
